The third event, Neue Artisans 3.0 grew into a bigger design showcase attracting 35 local and even international designers. The Annexe Gallery in Central Market, was a beautiful gallery space in central old Kuala Lumpur, giving a unique contrast to the modern and emerging design products exhibited. Initially, Neue Artisans was a platform for local Malaysian designers-makers, but we received interests from some international designers from Singapore, London and Seoul. They were currently in Kuala Lumpur working on a project at the time, and expressed interest to participate at Neue Artisans. Designers from neighbouring Singapore were exclusively invited and they were gracious to showcase their projects. We were thrilled to have this cross-border participation and support. The feature Installation also expanded into a bigger format. We commissioned Warith and Abby, Malaysian-born architectural designers, based in Hong Kong at the time, to design and fabricate a unique installation for Neue Artisans 3.0. Their piece was entitled, "Rehal", a generative computational piece, digitally fabricated. This expanded the categories of design products made from various techniques, not only manual craftsmanship, but also introducing the realms of digital fabrication like laser-cutting and 3D printing in local design products. These various methods used by our local designers and makers were to be celebrated and encouraged. Neue Artisans is important in creating this platform, as not only to expand and progress in design concepts and fabrication, but also to encourage entrepreneurship among young designers. Neue Artisans 3.0 was a vibrant event, attracting over 1000 visitors eager to meet and purchase local works. As organizers, we hope to continue to host this unique event of its kind here in Malaysia, together with our partners and supporters.
